Results of the PROCIA Study to Reduce Antibiotic Treatment in Abdominal Surgery

Dr. Emilio Maseda. Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Service. La Paz University Hospital. Madrid

The usefulness of procalcitonin to determine the duration of antibiotic treatment has been demonstrated in different studies, allowing the consumption of these drugs to be reduced without affecting the patient's evolution. In this video, Dr. Emilio Maseda presents his own experience, indicating that in critically ill patients with complicated abdominal infection, the use of procalcitonin allows this duration to be reduced by 50%, without affecting mortality.
