Editorial: 2023 Looking to the future with realism

Dear friends,

After having overcome, although without completely leaving behind, the stage of Covid 19, which has been possibly one of the most painful and dark periods for humanity, we look towards the new year 2023 with hope and with a deep desire that the conflicts be resolved. in our old Europe. We also hope that all our health professionals have the time, resources and recognition they deserve to continue caring for citizens.

At the Foundation we also look forward to this year, which will allow us to focus on important aspects of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients with sepsis that were part of our roadmap.

We know that it is impossible to cover all those tasks necessary to achieve a significant impact in reducing mortality from this clinical complication. We are aware of the advances that research and the biosanitary industry provide us, but we are also fighting against some factors such as the economic crisis, the aging of the population and the difficulties that health care structures are going through with staff hard hit by the pandemic, care saturation and the limitations of the system itself. In this scenario, we must look to the future realistically and pragmatically.

For all these reasons, we are going to prioritize two important aspects of our activity.

First of all, training, launching an ambitious program to update professionals in collaboration with UDIMA. I refer to the DIPLOMA course IN DIAGNOSIS, STRATIFICATION AND TREATMENT OF SEPSIS. This initiative will allow us to train, in a regulated manner and within the university framework, professionals with a multidisciplinary profile who are committed to the fight against sepsis. All this, with a program designed with an academic itinerary that delves into the most important aspects of the diagnosis, stratification and treatment of sepsis with the most current criteria.

We are also working to expand some fields of knowledge that are essential in the management of these patients, such as: their kidney health or focus control through accessible and advanced technical solutions.

We have received many expressions of support and appreciation for the Sepsis Experience initiative which, due to its validity, continues to allow the design of Sepsis Code models tailored to the needs and possibilities of health centers. I am sure that this tool, the result of the efforts of front-line specialists, will help other centers in choosing and sizing the means of fighting sepsis, prioritizing the most relevant actions.

We consider that the Covid stage has been passed, which has required us to set our goal in the management of critically ill patients often affected by this "atypical infection", for which reason we will transfer the publications that we have handled to the documentary repository and we will set our priority for the initiatives exposed. .

There is so much to do, that from the FPES we also have to apply our own "think about sepsis code" to focus on what is a priority and relevant.

Thank you all very much for your attention and your support that help us to continue working.
