ABSTRACT

Institutionalized older adults and their caregivers are at high risk for COVID-19 illness. Outbreaks in nursing home facilities can threaten the healthcare system. COVID-19 suppression should focus on facility-based testing and infection control. Control policies should be developed to ensure that facilities remain adequately staffed and that infection control protocols are closely followed. Family will not be able to visit the facility, increasing isolation and vulnerability to abuse and neglect. To protect residents and staff, monitoring of nursing home facilities must remain a priority during the pandemic.
